In 1983, the 16 year-old girlfriend of Dave Amis (Strider Co-Founder) told him that she had been raped by a teacher at the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover, MA.  Both reported this to the school.  However, there was no investigation.  12 years later David Cobb was arrested and convicted of multiple crimes against children including sexual assault.  This experience led Dave and the Strider Team to re-examine what is going on in our nation's high schools.

We started with Phillips Academy.  Over an 18-month period, the team determined that Andover has had not just one, but two master predators on campus for about 20 years each.  Nine other teachers have been accused of sexual assault by former students. Having pedophiles on campus is a security failure; multiple pedophiles over decades is a catastrophic security failure.  The main problem, in our opinion, is that school administrators at Andover and at every high school in the nation do not understand how these predators work and have no tools to stop them.

We believe the solution is first of all a major research project -  identify every predator method used in the high school environment.  “Once this is done, we will be able to share this information with schools across the country so they can use it to make their schools as safe as possible.” said Dave Amis, Chief Safety Officer of Strider. 

The Strider Secondary School Predator Method Study© would include at least 1,000 cases of high school violence as well as interviews with victim-heroes and predators.  The goal is simple; identify every kind of predator method used against 13-18 year-olds while at school.  Implementation would include proposed modifications, as well as training for faculty, staff, and students on how to identify and stop predators.  This kind of research was quoted by several universities at $1.5M.  Strider can get it done for $674,000.  Since the emphasis is on identifying methods and solutions, it will be immediately useable and practical for school leaders who want to make their schools Safe-from-Violence™.
